Services

Preventive/Wellness Medicine
Wellness exams were designed to provide dogs and cats of all ages with affordable wellness & preventive care options. Each exam is designed to provide the appropriate wellness & preventive care services for a specific age range. By focusing on prevention, a wellness plan helps us better understand your pet’s regular health care needs. These exams should be scheduled a minimum of 1-2 times a year. This allows us to find and correct smaller issues before they broaden, identify risk factors like obesity and dental disease and develop programs to control these issues. Wellness visits also provide an opportunity for us to work with you to develop the best vaccination, flea, tick and heartworm program for your pet to prevent many serious and potentially deadly diseases. Finally, wellness visits allow our doctors and care team the chance to get to know you and your pet better and to develop a strong, trusting bond with your animal companion. We invite you to use this time to ask any questions or bring up any concerns you may have about your pet.

Emergency Services/Urgent Care
While we only provide emergency services during normal business hours, during that time if you ever feel like your pet needs emergency care we will be happy to help. When you call our hospital regarding your pet, we are unable to provide you with specific medical advice, drug dosage information, or a detailed treatment plan of our services over the phone. This information can only provided once a veterinarian has evaluated your pet. For after business  hours please call the Emergency and Specality Animal Medical Center at (205) 967-7389 located at 2864 Acton Rd, Birmingham, AL 35243.

Surgery
We understand that bringing your pet in for surgery, no matter how routine, can be a stressful time for both of you. That’s why we strive to make each and every surgical procedure as stress-free as possible. Our doctors are well-versed in all the most modern veterinary surgical techniques and are experienced in delivering high quality care to each patient they serve. All surgical patients are thoroughly examined and carefully screened with pre-surgical bloodwork to ensure that they are healthy enough to undergo surgery. We use only the safest anesthetic products, the administration of which is closely monitored by our highly skilled staff of veterinary technicians. Following surgery, we will work with you to explain post-surgical care instructions and implement an appropriate pain management plan customized to help your pet recover as comfortably as possible. We provide a wide variety of surgeries ranging from basic spay/neuter or even more advanced surgeries such as tumor and growth removal.  To schedule a surgery or consultation about a surgery please contact us at (205) 967-2511.

Dental Care
Healthy teeth and gums are the cornerstones to a lifetime of good health for your animal companion. Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to much more than just bad breath – they can cause dental disease, a much more serious condition that can wreak havoc on your pet’s entire body. The good news is, this can all be prevented through proper dental care. We offer a broad range of veterinary dental care services, from thorough examinations to teeth cleanings and polishings to extractions as needed. We’ll also work with you to provide advice on home dental care techniques that you can use to help keep your pet’s teeth and gums clean in between vet visits. We also offer a wide variety of dental chews for preventative care such as Oravet, CET Dental Chews and Hills Dental Chews.

Nutrition Consultation
Obesity is a common problem among pets, as it can be easy to over-feed a pet that knows how to beg. But being overweight is a serious problem for animals, and can cause real health problems as they get older. With proper diet and exercise, all pets should be able to meet their dietary needs and be within a healthy weight range. A pet’s nutritional needs change as they enter different stages of their lives. The best way to make sure your pet’s needs are being met is to consult with us about a diet made specifically for them and their lifestyle. If you have any questions about your pet’s diet or would like more information about your pet’s nutritional needs please contact us today so we can set up a nutrition plan for your pet.

Our facility offers a safe and social environment as an alternative for leaving pets alone during the day. Most pets crave socialization and some can become anxious and destructive when left alone for hours at a time. Doggie Day Care is a better option for busy pet owners. Supervised play time is available for dogs that are polite, social playmates and for dogs that arent as dog friendly we alo offer one on one play time with just our dayare staff. We utilize our large, fenced back yard for group playtime. Daily exercise is important for your pet’s mental and physical well being. Many pet owners are exhausted from a long day’s work, and are unable to give their dog the exercise they need. After spending the day playing with their canine friends, your pet will be more relaxed when they return home. Please note, all pets must be current on vaccines and parasite screening. No appointment or reservation is needed for daycare services.
